Integrated Chiropractic Care
The practice of Chiropractic has grown substantially with respect to supporting research and expanding roles. Cross-Up Chiropractors embrace the duty of a Physician to evaluate and manage the various systems of the body including the musculo-skeletal, neurological, cardiovascular, lymphatic, digestive, & hormonal.
Cross-Up specializes in Physical Medicine and Nutrition. The human body operates as a finely tuned machine that requires many parts to work in sync. We understand the importance of looking at how structures link together to create swift and stable movement.
Chiropractic must be more than a joint therapy; at Cross-Up, we thoroughly examine the body region causing your pain and restriction, then we create a recovery plan that gets you better as quickly and effectively as possible.
Patients from surrouding towns, including Mundelein, Libertyville, Vernon Hills, and more prefer our Chiropractors evaluation and treatments becuase they see significant results in record time.
What is an Adjustment?
Adjustment is another name for Chiropractic Manipulation Technique (CMT) by our chiropractor. This is the foundational tool of Chiropractic care that is designed around keeping your Central Nervous System (CNS) in good health.
The vertebral column harnesses, protects, and directs your central and peripheral nervous systems. This is considered the main control system of the body that controls incoming and outgoing signals to and from the brain.
Amazingly enough, the spine is a physical access point to functioning of our nervous system. The autonomic nervous system refers to our sympathetic (fight or flight) and parasympathetic (rest & digest) branches. Chiropractic adjustments can influence the activity of these systems allowing the body to regulate itself more efficiently.
Meet Our Chiropractors
Chiropractor Dr. Jack P Rieke
Chiropractor, Active Release + Rehab Specialist
Dr. Rieke is always looking to build on the tools and resources he can use to provide the best care for every patient. He was inspired by Chiropractic at a young age when his mother suffered from severe and chronic pain. After seeing about 13 specialists and undergoing countless failed procedures, his mother finally experienced effective and lasting relief by visiting a Chiropractor. After becoming a patient himself, he recognized the immense impact this practice makes on the lives of many and knew right away that he wanted to pursue this career of service to others.
Chiropractor Dr. Peyton Habenicht
Chiropractor, Acupuncturist, NET, FMT, Webster Certified
At just 14 years old, Dr. Habenicht developed a passion for Chiropractic Medicine and decided this field was her future. As a committed soccer player, Dr. Habenicht was always searching for real health solutions instead of medication for her injuries. In high school, she sought out Chiropractic Care for a severe ankle sprain. As a result she experienced full resolution of ankle pain and weakness, and due to the comprehensive nature of the practice she also had relief of hip pain and a reduction of GERD symptoms and debilitating migraines.

Our Chiropractor Adjustment Methods
We use several techniques at Cross-up Chiro, depending on our patient’s needs. One or more techniques may be used to provide the best results for you.
Diversified & Gonstead Techniques
Very specific adjustment based on assessment of coupled motion of the joints and restoration of each plane of movement. These techniques evaluate subtle restrictions in movement of the joints and vertebra, and utilize high velocity low amplitude thrusts to align the body.
Activator tool
An instrument used to do the adjustment. Very gentle, well tolerated. Can be used on all ages, from infants to the elderly. This tool imparts multiple small impulses that cumulatively act to shift the joint into alignment. It also allows us to more comfortably manipulate rib joints and the TMJ.
Flexion & Distraction
Uses a special table to gently create space in joints. Effective for disc issues and stenosis and muscular therapy; very comfortable stretching of the lumbosacral spine and pelvis. This allows us to isolate spinal segments and facilitate motion in both the frontal and sagittal plane.
Drop Technique
Cervical drop is great for TMJ manipulation. Speeder board drop used for extremities, most often for the ankle and wrist. This technique allows us to use inertia to move the joint into position instead of force. For that reason it is very effective for smaller, more vulnerable joints of the body.
“Our focus is on finding and fixing the underlying problem – not just masking it.”
Chiropractic – Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Does insurance cover chiropractic?
Yes – We accept the following PPO Insurance Plans:
- Blue Cross Blue Shield
- Aetna
- UnitedHealthcare
We also accept Medicare.
Cash visits are subject to appropriate time of service discount.
When to stop chiropractic treatment?
Our chiropractor will prescribe a treatment plan for you to experience full relief and recovery. Many patients prefer to come back regularly for tune-ups, but others do great by adhering to the exercises they learned during care.
What is the pop sound during an adjustment?
Not to worry, this has nothing to do with bones popping or anything cracking. The sound you hear is actually from the formation of a nitrogen bubble within the joint. During a joint manipulation, the surfaces of the joint are brought towards one another with respect to mechanical function; this brings many negatively charge proteins (glycosaminoglycans – GAGs) closer and like the same end of two magnets they want to repel. The doctor applies a precise and gentle impulse to the joint, allowing it to separate. When the bubble is formed, this expands the joint to bring in water and nutrients that help produce smooth and full range of motion through the joint.

Chiropractic care
Historical accounts help us understand that medicine is not only dynamic but constantly evolving. There are alternatives to modern medicine that take a holistic approach to improving well-being. Chiropractic care is one of such and it’s an excellent alternative for the treatment of muscle, bone, and nerve issues.
What is Chiropractic?
Chiropractic is a profession in healthcare in which chiropractors correct defects in the musculoskeletal and nervous systems of patients without surgery and drugs. Chiropractic therapy employs various methods to adjust joints, spine, muscles, and nerves, including counsel, diet, and physical exertion. Chiropractors sometimes refer to this form of therapy as performance chiropractic care.
Chiropractic treatment does not prescribe drugs for use. However, chiropractors sometimes would encourage patients to use drug-prescribing healthcare services they deem fit.
Chiropractic Adjustment Care
The chiropractic adjustment is when trained professionals use their hands or special tools to manually add pressure to individual portions of the body for correction and return to the optimal physical form. It is a corrective chiropractic procedure, also known as spinal manipulation.
Your local chiropractor should have a license before seeing clients. You want to avoid putting your spine in the hands of an untrained individual. The repercussions would be severe. It would be best to visit trained chiropractors who are not sitting with a limited understanding of chiropractic adjustment but are pursuing advanced chiropractic knowledge.
What is a Chiropractor?
A chiropractor is an individual who undergoes and completes the necessary training on evaluating, diagnosing, and treating clients with mechanical disorders in their nervous and musculoskeletal systems.
These doctors of chiropractic pass through a thorough education in the healing sciences to receive their license from the state after passing the National Board of Chiropractic Examiners exam.
Chiropractic doctors practice in every state of the US. They are presently in demand in the US. Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates a 10% growth in the employment rate of chiropractors, which is more than the average for other primary healthcare professions.
Professional doctors with integrated chiropractic knowledge can use clinical examination, lab testing, diagnostic imaging, and other interventions to know which treatment to use at any point in time.
Doctors study these essential chiropractic practices. It is what makes them doctors. But successful doctors understand that this knowledge may, at some point, not be enough. Hence they would adopt alternative treatments or even refer patients to other primary health professionals.
