Integrated Health Care

The practice of Chiropractic has grown substantially with respect to supporting research and expanding roles. Cross-Up Chiropractors embrace the duty of a Physician to evaluate and manage the various systems of the body including the musculo-skeletal, neurological, cardiovascular, lymphatic, digestive, & hormonal.

Cross-Up specializes in Physical Medicine and Nutrition. The human body operates as a finely tuned machine that requires many parts to work in sync. We understand the importance of looking at how structures link together to create swift and stable movement.

Chiropractic must be more than a joint therapy; at Cross-Up, we thoroughly examine the body region causing your pain and restriction, then we create a recovery plan that gets you better as quickly and effectively as possible.

At Cross-Up, we not offer MASSAGE THERAPY as part of our treatment options due to it’s incredible ability to physically and emotionally heal.

Massage Therapy

What is Massage Therapy?

Massage therapy involves using different techniques to manipulate the soft tissues of the body, like muscles, tendons, and ligaments. It’s usually done by trained professionals known as massage therapists, but people can also do it themselves or with less formal training.

There are lots of different ways to do massage, each with its own benefits and goals. Some focus on relaxation and reducing stress, while others target specific areas of tension or pain. Whether it’s with long, gentle strokes or deeper pressure, the aim is to promote healing, relieve discomfort, and improve overall well-being.

People use massage therapy for all sorts of reasons, from soothing sore muscles to managing chronic conditions. It’s often part of a holistic approach to health, alongside things like exercise, nutrition, and other therapies. So, whether you’re looking to unwind after a long day or address a specific issue, massage therapy offers a versatile and effective way to support your body and mind.

Massage Therapy Specialist

My foray into massage therapy started around seven years prior to me actually taking classes to become certified. I played hockey most of my life and would always be a little sore after taking some hits or blocking shots. I researched ways to manage my injuries and discovered some self-massage techniques. Eventually, other players on my teams wanted me to work on them. It seemed like I had a natural knack for it as everybody was noticing improvements in their range of motion and recovery. You can image my surprise when I later learned in school what I did was not just placebo. The body responds great when we show it some appreciation.

Ok. So the doctor knows his stuff, and willing to share it on a level that means something. Took care of the worst pain and numbness to my right leg I have ever had. The exercise routine he has given me, will change my muscle issues for the better and I believe, how I will age.

Dr. Jack’s expertise has been very helpful fixing and promoting healing for my sciatica problem. I started seeing him in early September following an injury in August that was significantly painful and had caused restricted mobility for weeks. My former longtime PT left the state a few years ago and I went to Dr. Jack with a high recommendation from my husband.Dr. Jack is kind, upbeat, very knowledgeable, and he has been extremely integral in helping me get through this physical issue. The office is modern, clean, and well-equipped. Staff is very friendly and efficient. I highly recommend Cross-Up Chiropractic!

I absolutely LOVE this center and Dr. Jack and Dr. Payton. Our whole family goes here. Let me just say that, while I have worked with wonderful chiropractors in the past, there isn't anyone that is as comprehensive as Dr. Jack and Dr. Payton are. One recent example, I came in for an adjustment and complained of feeling sleepy and not having the clearest head. Dr. Jack analyzed and had me do a few head movements to reset (something dealing with inner ear) and my head cleared up within 2 minutes. Other recent examples - I had headaches and Dr. Jack did a TMJ adjustment that made them go away. My son had a forearm injury, Dr. Jack stepped up with Occupational Therapy. My wife is raving about Dr. Payton for help with her issues. My shoulder was hurt and Dr. Jack fixed it, etc. etc. etc. They truly are the best place to go if you're in need of a chiropractor, acupuncture, physical therapy, or nutrition. Every time I get more and more impressed. If you're in Libertyville, Vernon Hills (like I am), Mundelein, or any of the surrounding area - you really should check them out! Thank you Dr. Jack and Dr. Payton!!!

After calling Dr. Rieke, while in immense pain with my IT Band injury, he gave me immediate instructions about how to stabilize my injury at home until my appointment the very next morning. Once in his office, Dr. Rieke alleviated the majority of my pain during the very first visit (I crawled in, and was actually able to walk out.) He spent about an hour with me and throughout the entire visit explained the dynamics behind his methodology. It really helped to be educated about my condition which allowed me to better understand the road to recovery. Can't thank Dr. Jack enough for his knowledge and expertise – along with his compassionate bedside manner. He's a real pro!

The doctors here research nutrition, active release technique and LISTEN to the patient in our family. The doctors take time to communicate with the patient to understand the patient's health situation. The doctors ask the patient for feedback and use their knowledge to adapt treatment accordingly. Dr Rieke was fabulous. He took the time to thoroughly review and discuss my history, asked lots of questions and really listened. His assessment included asking fur my feedback on pain, discomfort and the like. This helped him determine what was happening and what treatment was called for. I look forward to continuing our work together.

I wish I could rate more than 5 stars! I do not submit reviews often but Cross-Up Chiropractic is hands down the best Chiropractic office I have ever been to. They are the most caring doctors who listen to their patients and create plans that will fix the issue(s) long term and not put a bandaid on them. Dr. Peyton has helped me overcome injuries that I thought I would have to live in pain for the rest of my life. I always leave my appointments feeling like a new person! At every appointment I have she continues to educate me on why my pains are occurring and how we will be fixing them for a long term. She has introduced me to acupuncture, cupping and nutrition! My healthy and body are in a completely different place from where I was 4 months ago and I owe it all to Dr. Peyton! I cannot say enough amazing things about her!

Dr. Peyton Habenicht worked with me for over two hours for my first session and adjustment. She was thorough & informed me of more details regarding my injury. I really enjoyed that she taught me PT exercises that I can do from home to help speed my recovery. From the first phone conversation I could tell that she is informed & she listened to all of my concerns. Our Massage Therapy Methods

We use several techniques at Cross-up Chiro, depending on our patient’s needs. One or more techniques may be used to provide the best results for you.

Therapeutic Massage

Therapeutic massage is a broad term that refers to any massage technique or modality aimed at promoting healing, relieving pain, and improving overall well-being. Therapeutic massage is more targeted and often addresses specific health concerns or conditions. At Cross-Up, this type of massage is often utilized when the therapist coordinates with one of our physicians.

Relaxation Massage

Relaxation massage is a gentle and soothing form of massage therapy primarily aimed at inducing relaxation and reducing stress. During a relaxation massage session, the massage therapist typically uses long, smooth strokes and gentle, circular movements to manipulate the muscles and tissues of the body. The pressure applied is usually light to moderate, and the pace is slow and rhythmic. The goal of relaxation massage is to promote a sense of deep relaxation and well-being.

Swedish Massage

This is the most common type of massage geared toward improving circulation, facilitating lymphatic drainage, decreasing stress, and lowering blood pressure. It emphasizes five main features of massage including Effleurage (long, gliding strokes), Petrissage (kneading, squeezing, and lifting motions), Friction (pressure across the grain of the muscles) Tapotement (percussion, includes rhythmic tapping, chopping, and cupping movements) Vibration (gentle shaking or trembling motions).

Deep Tissue Massage & Trigger Point Therapy

Deep tissue massage can be beneficial for a variety of conditions, including chronic pain, muscle tension, injury rehabilitation, and postural imbalances. Deep tissue massage can cause soreness and discomfort in very tense or sensitive areas of the body. As such, it is important to communicate with your massage therapist to ensure that nothing is overbearing. It is not uncommon to be sore for a couple days after deep tissue massage.

Trigger point therapy focuses on parts of the body where muscle knots are causing pain or discomfort. If left untreated, they can lead to multiple issues, including but not limited to, chronic pain, musculoskeletal dysfunction, and even tension headaches. Tigger point therapy has the therapist apply light, sustained pressure on the knot over a period of time that can last up to two minutes. The amount of time will vary depending on the size of the knot, and can take multiple attempts to fully fix.

“Our focus is on finding and fixing the underlying problem – not just masking it.”

Massage – Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

How does Massage therapy work?

Massage therapists manipulate body tissues in a way that leads to increased circulation, increased lymph drainage, lower stress levels, increased tissue health, and many other effects that improve the body’s ability to function. It isn’t uncommon to be sore for a few days after a massage. Even more so if the muscles worked are extremely tight or sensitive. Certain types of massage therapy can even be used in injury prevention. While it cannot prevent all injuries, it is far more difficult to injure oneself with healthy tissues.

How much does a Massage visit cost?

The cost of massage depends on the extent of care and time of services. Prices for some services are shown in the table below.

Massage Therapy Price,$
1 Hour Massage – 50 minutes hands on work 75
1 and a half hour Massage – 70 minute hands on work 110

When to see a Massage Therapist?

You can see a massage therapist for just about anything. There are very few instances when you shouldn’t see including the first four hours of taking medicine as the improved blood circulation will cause the medicine to pass through the body faster than intended resulting in the medicine being less effective than it normally would be. You also shouldn’t seek massage therapy if you have low blood pressure as massage therapy lowers blood pressure levels which can be dangerous in some cases. Massage therapy can is a very beneficial means of healing that is safe for just about everybody. If you have sciatica pain, there is a chance massage therapy can be beneficial as one of the major causes for sciatic pain involves a muscle that massage therapists can work. If this muscle isn’t the cause, massage therapy may not help. Massage is safe for toddlers and the elderly in shorter sessions. It’s even safe for pregnant women despite the many misconceptions. Some people even see massage therapists because massage helps them sleep better.

At Cross-Up Chiropractic, we are particularly excited to offer many holistic measures for optimizing your health.

Does insurance cover massage?

In specific insurance plans it is covered. Most often this type of service is considered maintenance care and would fall in the uncovered category. Contact your health insurance provider to learn more about your plan. Fortunately we provide these services at an affordable rate that is often more cost effective than insurance deductibles.

How often can I see a Massage Therapist?

It is ideal to see a massage therapist every two through four weeks. Less than two weeks is rarely beneficial for recovery.

What do I wear to a Massage appointment?

What you wear for a massage visit depends on your personal comfort level and the type of massage you’re receiving. Here are some general guidelines:

Comfortable Clothing: Many massage therapists recommend wearing loose, comfortable clothing to your appointment. This makes it easier to undress and dress again after the massage. You might wear items like yoga pants, sweatpants, or athletic shorts, along with a T-shirt or tank top.

Sheets and gowns provided for privacy. Some people prefer to wear underwear during their massage for modesty or comfort reasons. However, if you’re comfortable, you can choose to undress completely. Rest assured, professional massage therapists are trained to drape you with a sheet or towel to ensure your privacy and comfort at all times.

Remove Jewelry and Accessories: It’s a good idea to remove any jewelry, watches, or accessories before your massage session. This allows the massage therapist to work more effectively without any interference or risk of damage to your belongings.

Ultimately, the most important thing is to wear whatever makes you feel comfortable and relaxed during your massage. Your massage therapist will ensure your privacy and dignity are respected throughout the session, regardless of what you choose to wear.

What is Massage Therapy?

Massage therapy Chicago is all about working on the body’s soft tissues, like muscles and tendons, to help them feel better. For maximum results this must be done by trained professionals, but it’s also something people can try on their own or with a bit of learning.

There are many ways to give the best massage in Chicago, each with its own purpose and advantages. Some are meant to help you relax and lower stress, while others aim to ease tight spots or pain. Whether it’s through slow, soft moves or more forceful ones, the goal is to help heal, ease pain, and make you feel better overall.

People turn to massage Chicago IL for various reasons, such as calming down aching muscles or dealing with long-term health issues. It often goes hand in hand with other healthy habits like working out, eating well, and trying different treatments, both traditional and non-traditional. Massage therapy is a great way to make you relaxed while also dealing with a wide range of health issues.

The Benefits of Massage Therapy

Here are the main benefits:

  • Lowering Stress. It’s well known that massage therapists Chicago can make stress go down. Working on muscles and tissues makes you feel relaxed, brings down stress hormones, and gives you a peaceful feeling.
  • Easing Pain. Massage helps with both sudden and lasting pain by making blood flow better, loosening up muscles, and cutting down swelling. It’s a common way to help with issues like back pain, headaches, and joint pain.
  • Relaxing Muscles. By pressing and stretching muscles, massage in Chicago makes them loosen up and become more flexible.
  • Boosting Blood Flow. Massage helps blood and fluid move better around the body, bringing more oxygen and nutrients to cells and organs.
  • Enhancing Immunity. Getting massage Chicago regularly can make the immune system stronger by making white blood cells more active and improving how the lymph system works. This helps the body fight off sickness better.
  • Sleeping Better. Many people find they sleep more soundly after getting a massage. The relaxation from the massage can lead to deeper sleep and less trouble sleeping.
  • Improved Mood. Massage therapist in Chicago can trigger the release of feel-good chemicals in the brain, like endorphins and serotonin. This can help lower anxiety and sadness by making you feel more relaxed and happy.
  • More Energy. By easing muscle tension and promoting relaxation, massage can make you feel more energized and less tired. This can help you do more and feel more alive.
  • Awareness of Mind and Body. Massage helps focus on how the body feels and promotes a relaxed state. This can lead to a stronger link between the mind and body.
